About the Speakers

Aruna Panangipally: Aruna Panangipally is the Director of ibruk Consulting Pvt Ltd, a technical writing and instructional design company in Mumbai. An Engineer with a Strategic Management qualification from IIM Calcutta, Aruna is one of the pioneers of technical writing in India and a founding member of STC India Chapter.
She is passionate about being a user advocate and believes that technical writing and instructional design play a very important role in enhancing the user experience by showing users efficient and effective ways of using a solution. Aruna is also an internationally renowned trainer and conducts technical writing and ID courses across the world.

Ashish James: The youngest speaker for STC Mumbai, working with Digité for past 1.5 years as a Technical Writer. He started editing Audio/video at an early age of fourteen.Some of his key interests include baking, debating, and long distance driving.

Arti Shah: Arti Shah has a total of 23 years of experience out of which last 3 years are with LTTS, where she is donning different hats! in her various roles to improve delivery quality. She has 20 + years of delivery experience in Design and Development of embedded systems for Industrial Automation and Process Control Instrumentation. Prior to LTTS she has worked with Elder Instruments & Satyam Computers (currently Tech Mahindra) and handled global clients like GE, UTC, Pepsi, and Thermo Fisher Scientific, where her role spanned across working on Program/Delivery Management, Project Management, Proposal making, software development/support/maintenance/re-engineering of products and applications.
She has 3 patents in her name as co-inventor along with GE. She is a Toastmaster and has written Articles, Whitepapers & Speeches for the leaders

Sanchari Mitra: A certified Business Analyst cum Technical Writer with over 9 years of experience.
Currently, associated with L&T Infotech as a Business Writer specializing in Proposals, White Papers, and Collateral. She has worked with companies like Bank of America, R Systems, and Vistaar with an exposure to different types of documentation.

Sangeeta Kataria: Sangeeta Kataria, has over 14 years of experience in the field of Technical Writing. Early-on in her career, she had the opportunity to document for a product’s APIs and then moved on to creating help for the same product’s GUI. She has worked at companies such as PTC, IBM, and is currently working for a Telecom company in Mumbai. Over the years, she has explored varied ways of creating User Documentation using new strategies and latest tools.

Makarand Pandit: Makarand aka Mak is a successful technical communicator, project manager, and trainer, with over 23 years of experience. He is the first Indian to become a Fellow of Society for Technical Communication. He is currently, the Managing Director, Principal Trainer – Technowrites Pvt. Ltd.; Member – Board of Studies, Department of English, Fergusson College, Pune; Visiting Faculty – University of Pune; and Trainer Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India.

About the Sessions

Overview of Authoring in DITA by Aruna Panangipally, iBruk (Mumbai)

This is a session devoted to the practical implementation of DITA. After a brief overview of DITA, Aruna will demonstrate how to:

  • create topics in DITA
  • define deliverables using DITA Maps
  • generate outputs
  • implement single-sourcing

Along the way, Aruna will share insights she has gained from multiple DITA implementations.

Learning Simple White Board Video by Ashish James, Digité (Mumbai)

Whiteboard video has undoubtedly come of the age and proven its real power of showcasing any concept, simple or complex in an exciting and innovative way. Where the conventional video fails, whiteboard video takes it further by leveraging the power of animation and visually building a story with a clear call to action for the audience.

In this short session, Ashish will show you how to create a whiteboard video using a simple tool. The session will cover a detailed introduction to that tool and how to use its artifacts to build a video sequentially.

As information designers, understanding the requirements as a BA would give us the extra edge of being more inclined towards what the user wants – that is, more empathy – resulting in user satisfaction – ultimate.

The session would cover:

  •  Difference between adding to an existing product documentation and creating afresh
