The Admin Council for the STC India Chapter is typically elected around December each year. The baton is officially handed over in January, and the new council has a year to do what it sets out to do. The Admin Council consists of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and the Immediate Past President. This year’s council took over the responsibility with great gusto and has operated so far with amazing dedication. In fact, there has been no distinction in the level of commitment towards various activities. Each Council member has been equally committed towards all activities so far. Therefore, it is only fair that this issue of Indus showcase the other members of the Council, without whose able support, STC India would not be functioning like well-oiled machinery. So, what is the current Council up to? Read about it from the other members of the council: |
Michelle Cherian, Vice President says... "...This year, we have had a creative and hard-working admin council - a team full of new ideas as well as the interest to make these ideas a reality. Our busy work schedules make it difficult to spare quality time for STC activities, but believe me, the time spent is well worth the effort. This year, I happily stepped out of the Treasurer's shoes and was able to actively assist with the STC career day as well as the first attempt to make technical writing available in a certification through Mysore University and autonomous colleges in Bangalore. Sustaining the range of activities that STC India already has such as the monthly learning sessions, and regional conferences, and of course, the largest event being the annual conference is challenging, but a very rewarding experience. I urge you all to come forward, to volunteer and contribute to the growth of our technical writing community in India..." |
"...I am trying to support the rest of the admin council and help to plan and execute activities for the STC India chapter. I am satisfied with what we have accomplished so far this year. The major activity planned for this year is the STC annual conference, and it happens to be in Goa. There are a lot of things STC can do to support the technical writing community, and I can only see opportunities..." |
"...Taking over the Treasurer's role was more of a "Let me do something new" type of a decision for me. Believe me, it took me a couple of months to figure out what my role meant and a couple more to truly start performing in that capacity! Today, if anyone in STC India talks about expenses, I'm all ears. I'm also all-wall when I receive payment requests without receipts...:-)...The past few months have kept me in a frenzy, what with the Regional Conferences in Bangalore, New Delhi, and Pune followed by the Career Day in Bangalore. This is also that time of the year, when STC India needs to submit its Annual Financial Report to STC for the year 2006-2007. Once completed, we'll immediately start working towards the 9th Annual Conference. That sounds like a great year to me for the STC India Chapter!..." |
Gururaj B. S.,
Immediate Past President says...
"...I am happy to see the way things are going this year. We started off on a very good note with the India chapter bagging the award of distinction and the award of excellence. It would not have been possible without the relentless efforts of all volunteers. I think that's a great start. The tempo continued to increase with a slew of special events like regional conferences and career day lined up in different cities to showcase different aspects of technical communication. The admin council, in my opinion, is working well together to achieve the chapter's objectives. We have had several admin council meetings and discussions to plan initiatives and activities, resolve issues concerning the chapter, and identify ways to get to the next level of achievement. The annual conference in Goa this year is set up with lots of choices - topics ranging from editing to Web 2.0. Register for the annual conference, pronto. As the conference sponsorship manager, I take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors for their great support. Send me an e-mail message if you want to know how your participation in the conference as a sponsoring organization will benefit you..." |
