Kudos
Dear Editors,
The Sep-Oct 2005 issue ofIndus made way for
interesting and informative reading. I especially enjoyed reading the
Grammar Dose (Does
Position Matter?) section by Gururaj B.S. and Prabhat N.R. All of us,
at some point in time, tend to take our knowledge of the English
language, grammar, and allied topics for granted. Reading this column made
me realize how important it is to be a perennial learner. Kudos to Gururaj
and Prabhat for an article
well-written!
And then
some…
Hello
Editors,
James Romano's write up is as
refreshing as the news he brought is gratifying.
In the Presidential
Perspective, STC 2006 conference is mentioned. I think the reference is to
the Hyderabad 2005 conference.
Grammar dose has the usual stuff
that one can read (or should have already read before venturing into tech
or any form of writing profession). If it doesn’t pep up, it will end up
as grammar doze.
The beauty of English Language is that it changes
and adapts itself to express ideas freely. It even adopts words from
foreign languages to maintain its cutting edge in the power of expression.
Thus we have Indian words like "hawala", "bandh", "dhaba", and "chamcha",
in English lexicon. And the latest in the series is "Badmash".
Mentor
is a word
derived from the Greek gentleman of that name in Odyssey. He 'mented'
Telemachus. There is no word like mentee. (Reference: Member profile of
Neelam Singh).

Informative issue
Hello Editors,
As always, this issue of
Indus is very
informative. I found the "Where do you want to work?" and "Best Practices
– Managing Documentation Sources" quite interesting. Good work team.
Appreciate all the effort that goes into bringing out this
Newsletter.
