STC
India Chapter Elections 2005
In the seven years of existence of the STC India chapter, its Admin
Council has always been elected during the Annual Business Meeting (ABM).
In the first few years, both nominations and elections took place at the
ABM. In 2003 and 2004, nominations were made in advance of the ABM.
The
ABM is held on the evening of the first day of our Annual Conference to
ensure that members across India can attend. However, it was observed that
many members, who could not attend the conference for some reason, were
not present for the ABM. To enable a more effective participation of
members in the election process this year, Admin Council has come up with
the following method:
- Nominations
were invited from members for self-nomination or to nominate others
with consent for the various Admin Council positions. The final list
of nominees has been announced by November 15, 2005.
- Hard
copy ballots with the names of all the nominees were sent by post to
all India Chapter members by November 20, 2005.
- Members
could vote for the nominees they believe would make the best
President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
- The
fifth position in the Admin Council is the Immediate Past President -
who automatically assumes the post.
- Members
posted their ballots by December 1st, 2005.
The unopened envelopes will be brought to the
conference venue and opened by the Admin Council just before the Annual
Business Meeting begins.
STC
India Annual Conference Theme Competition Winners

“Making ‘Written inIndia’ a
Brand,” followed by Mohd Qais Mujeeb, who won the second prize for the
theme “Enriching Audience Experience through Multi-dimensional

Topic
Summary |
Usability
is the buzzword in today's leading software organizations. Companies
train their professionals and build usability testing
infrastructure to gain competitive advantage by moving closer to
their end-users. Technical communicators play the role of user
advocates among the technology professionals who create solutions
for users. What value do technical communicators add in the area of
human-computer interaction? What do we mean by the often repeated
terms such as HCI, usability engineering, interaction design, user
interface design, emotional design, etc? This presentation
introduced these areas of knowledge and research to the audience.
The speaker also explained the different usability review and
testing methods using a few relevant examples and
exercises. |
