A Fantastic Year for Indus

By Frederick Menezes

Another STC India year is coming to an end. Which means this is the last issue of Indus for this year. It also means that this is my last  presidential column for Indus.

To me, this newsletter has been one of the most successful and satisfying activities of the year. Even at the risk of sounding immodest, I would say that Indus is developing into one  of the finest STC chapter newsletters out there. The current editors have put in sterling efforts to produce some excellent issues.

It was a kind of a coup to have people like Andy Rathbone, JoAnn Hackos, Carel Jansen, Carol Barnum, Jeff Johnson, Judy Glick-Smith, Claire Harrison, Joel Sklar, Krista Van Laan, and Peter Hartman contributing to Indus within a span of less than a year.

More importantly, the newsletter has carried in-depth articles on issues that are especially relevant to technical communication professionals in India.

The long-time plan of deploying the newsletter onlineas a webzinealso came to fruition this year. The newsletter also continues to be produced as a PDF mainly for the benefit of those who find it difficult to access the Web.

Looking forward, I believe Indus can be developed into a vehicle to aggressively promote the field of technical communication within our own country. We should look for means to reach the newsletter to people beyond our current constituency.

While I plan to continue my association with the newsletter, I wish the newsletter editors all the best in taking Indus to even higher levels.

Our 4th Annual Conference is just around the corner. It is the only annual occasion for the Indian technical communication community to gather as one big family. With the many networking and learning opportunities, every technical communicator in India should try to make it to the conference.

I hope to see many of you at the conference. We could all be a part of the largest-ever gathering of technical communicators in India.
