A Whirl of ChangeWe have seen a whirl of change sweep across our community in recent years. I take this opportunity to thank all STC India chapter members for choosing me as their president. It is indeed a great feeling to lead TWIN and STC India at the same time. Both are equally important to the growth of the technical writing profession in India. The STC India chapter has been making a constant and remarkable progress. The chapter now has over 105 members. The seventh annual conference of the chapter held at Hyderabad attracted more than 350 participants from across the globe. Uday Chava, the program manager of the conference, did a great job. On behalf of the STC India chapter, I want to congratulate Uday and his team on a job well done. I also want to congratulate the winners of volunteer awards, competition awards, and DCSA nominees on their accomplishments. We have to sustain and improve what our senior members have done for the community. I must admit that they have done a commendable job. Some of them have seen us grow from a relatively small network to a big group of committed volunteers. The STC India chapter has a presence in many cities: Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Kerala. Thanks to our volunteers in these cities for spearheading many STC events. We are now in the process of receiving nominations for different management committee and city representative positions. We, the admin council, will pick our choices soon. For the first time in the history of STC India, I want to formulate a plan for our chapter activities on the basis of people's input and feedback. I am going to conduct a small Web-based survey to collect suggestions from the Indian technical writing community toward defining the strategic direction of STC India in 2006. I will do this once a quarter. I have requested Dr. Vani Ashwathanarayana from SAP Labs to drive this effort. The survey will be made available on the STC India Web site. I would appreciate if you could take some time off from your busy work schedule and respond to this survey. The survey will be announced on the STC India mailing list, TWIN, and TWI. As you all know, the STC membership dues have been localized. I hope to see a significant increase in the number of members in India. Thanks to the STC's board of directors and Jim Romano for bringing us this change. It was much required. I really want to hear from you. Your feedback is important to me. Feel free to write me an email at gururaj.bs@gmail.com anytime. I would like to wish you and your family a happy and prosperous new year. Please join me in extending a note of thanks and best wishes to all volunteers and members of the STC India chapter. Let us move ahead to achieve some bigger and better goals in 2006.
