STC India Regional Conferences

STC India is off to a blazing start in the year 2005. The recent boom in activities in cities and the intense planning on various fronts is a strong indication that the volunteers of the chapter are determined to exceed the stated objectives substantially. One important activity this year that deserves a mention is the STC regional conferences being planned.

STC has been concerned that all its members do not have access to the annual conferences due to various reasons. On further thinking, STC felt that an alternative to this could be taking its conferences to different parts of the country and provide more opportunities to the members by increasing the number of conferences in a year. We are sure these conferences will be a success because of the increasing demand for learning opportunities.

The first regional conference will be held in March at Bangalore with one day of intense activity in the form of presentations, networking opportunities, technology demonstrations, and a lot of fun. For this maiden regional conference, efforts have been made to bring in eminent speakers from the business and the academia in the country, to enable the members to get the alternative perspectives and trends. All these years, STC conferences focused on imparting technical communication skills with the help of experts from the community. This shift in focus will be welcomed by the community as we are aware that it is crucial for us to look beyond the obvious and better understand the world around us. We hope it will mark a new beginning and empower us to bring in more educational opportunities to our chapter.

We use this opportunity to hail the efforts of the STC administrative council and all those enthusiastic members, who are determined to make this event a success and thereby laying a solid foundation for future activities of STC in this direction. We are sure that this will mark a change in the working style of STC and make it more competent to reach out to the growing technical communication community in India.

Activities are already underway to organize regional conferences in other cities. The conferences will be held after taking your needs into consideration. We hope that all of you will support STC in its ambitious efforts. Please let STC know your thoughts and suggestions for bringing in quality and variety into the sessions and making them more relevant for technical communicators with different levels of experience. Also, take part in STC's efforts to design the future of technical communication by coming forward to share your ideas and skills.
