Exploring New Heights!

It’s five years since STC India Chapter made its presence felt by hosting a conference in Bangalore in 1999. Back then there were around 18 members in the chapter. By December 2003, the number of members grew to 78.

STC India Chapter was registered as a society in 2002; our Website is top-notch, our Newsletter has won awards at the international level, and we conduct several learning sessions throughout the year. All these achievements are the result of the dedicated efforts of members in the STC India Chapter teams of 1999-2003, and other volunteers. We have come a long way, but there’s still a lot of distance to cover.

Our chapter has been consolidating its strengths over five years. Today, with a booming economy and increasing windows of opportunity, it’s time for us to focus on building a brand that is a force to reckon with. To achieve this goal we need to work towards:

• Gaining recognition among IT bodies in India like NASSCOM

• Spreading awareness of the role of technical communicators and identifying areas for growth within the organizations in which they are employed

• Providing training that will bring aspirants and amateur technical communicators up the curve

• Thought leadership in the media

• Recognizing talent within the technical communication community

Volunteering for chapter efforts such as INDUS, Learning Sessions, enhancing membership levels, and PR is at an all-time high today. It is wonderful to see the enthusiasm evidenced by so many. I am sure that such concerted efforts can build a brand that we are proud to be associated with.
