SOCIETY FOR TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION

Indus is our chapter's award-winning bimonthly publication. It carries articles on the theory and practice of technical communication. Articles in Indus have a combined technology magazine and newsletter flavor. As a technology magazine, Indus balances the latest in technical communication practices, processes, and software with specific activities and articles pertinent to technical communicators in India. In its role as the STC India Chapter newsletter, Indus serves as a communication forum for its members while covering STC events in India. This technology magazine-newsletter mix allows Indus to have a "glocal" flavor that balances the best in the globe within the Indian context, and vice versa.

Indus has seen 5 years of existence, and has grown with each new issue. It has won three awards in STC Newsletter Competitions in the last 4 years -- Award of Excellence (2000), an Award of Merit (2003), and Distinguished and Most Improved Award (2004). STC members in the US and India are the primary contributors of articles. The current readership evidences a 3:1 ratio between Indian and US technical communicators.

How to Contribute

Indus is published in the last week of every odd-numbered month. You can contribute the following articles in Indus:

  1. Letters to the Editor – If you liked something about Indus, feel free to share your appreciation. If you have ideas for improvement or have located factual errors, then do write in without inhibition. Each suggestion, critique, or plaudit is extremely valuable.
  2. Articles – Indus publishes articles that range in length from 700 to 1000 words. These articles should be written in MS Word and discuss topics such as software tools, best practices, communication trends, and grammar. For graphics (images / snapshots), use high resolution images. These may later be processed separately for the webzine and pdf versions. Before you submit an article, check the file for viruses and send it to us in as a zip file.
  3. Columns – If you have a bright idea or a wealth of knowledge in a particular arena, contact the editors of Indus so you can write a regular column. You should submit at least 2 articles in advance for a column and commit to write at least 4 articles for the column.

Indus tries to publish as many high quality articles it can, yet space restrictions and content quality do determine the publication schedule.
