The Bangalore STC India Chapter is pleased to conduct a webinar by Ugur Akinci on August 22. Note that the speaker is based out in Washington, and we will appreciate if the participants could be on time for the webinar and make it easy for the speaker as it is a quite late US evening for him.Thank you Ugur for taking time out for the India Technical Communication fraternity!
Title of presentation: “Working for a Software Company: Career Advice and Best Practices”
Presentation Outline:
1) Ugur’s background — how he ended up as a technical writer.
2) Structure of a software company.
3) Tech writer’s place in the Product Life Cycle.
4) Productivity tips and challenges.
5) Best practices for a rewarding career.
Ugur will have a PowerPoint presentation to accompany his delivery. It will be for 40-45 minutes long, leaving room for 15 minutes of Q&A.
Profile: Ugur Akinci has been a technical communicator for Fortune 100 corporations such as Honeywell, Fannie Mae, and ADP since 1998.Ugur launched his professional career back in the 80s as a NATO bi-lingual (Turkish-English) senior translator. Then, until the mid-90s, he worked as a writer, editor, and DTP (Desk Top Publisher) for various clients. Between 1994-98, he worked as an NPC-member (National Press Club) reporter and columnist for a daily newspaper, covering the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Congress.
Ugur’s mission in life is to minimize disorganization and conflict, and maximize efficiency and happiness through better information design, communication, and training.
Ugur studied Electrical Engineering and Sociology at the Middle East Technical University (ODTU) in Ankara, Turkey. He holds a B.A. in Sociology from University of Texas at Austin, as well as an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Brown University.
