Session Abstracts

Targeted Documentation

Targeted documentation provides sufficient information for customers to use products effectively to achieve their goals. It embraces the tenets of minimalist documentation and is based on thoroughly understanding your users and their needs. This type of documentation gives specific information when and where necessary, documents best practices, provides extensive and relevant examples, and does not document the obvious or easily discoverable. This presentation gives an overview of what targeted documentation is, how to create or convert to targeted documentation libraries, and how it can help improve the overall user experience and reduce costs.

A “Publish-As-You-Write” system for effective documentation

What do you think is the efficient time frame for reviews to get done for your documentation? If you said “after all my the authoring gets done,” you are probably placing all your efforts on peril. Getting reviews done at the end of the release, after all the authoring is completed, means as the writer, you need to revisit pieces of documentation that you did weeks and months back, to fix review comments. The “Publish-As-You-Write” system is a simple and effective means to avoid such fire-fighting situations that typically happens in most of the documentation development scenarios. This presentation gives you an idea on how a writer and the reviewers can effectively operate parallely to automate the publishing of finished documentation pieces, and the subsequent review comments.

Platform-independent Collaborative Review

As you finish authoring, get your docs reviewed using a real-time cross-platform solution that gathers review comments from multiple review sources and enables you to import them into your authoring environment.

Towards Cloud Nine: Roadmap for Next Generation Documentation Services Delivery Model

More than just a buzzword or a set of services sitting in some remote data center, Cloud computing is a set of philosophy and approaches that can help organizations quickly and effectively manage their resources in real time. Cloud computing has a promising future in terms of getting organizations meet their computing needs quickly and cost effectively. It is as much about the business model as it is about the technology.
A progressive documentation group can leverage the benefits of Cloud computing model to gain competitive advantage and deliver cost-effective and timely solutions. This presentation provides an overview of what lies beneath the cloud for documentation team and how cloud computing models can help meet its business targets. In this session, you will understand the critical planning phases involved in aligning Cloud computing model with the documentation services delivery model and get insights on how to select the best cloud solutions for your documentation group without compromising on the quality and compliance front.

Social media strategies for your Customer Retention

This talk will discuss about the use of social media by customers in ways that allow other potential customer to get glimpse real world experiences of current customers with the seller’s products and services. It will also try to investigate why customer retention is an important business aspect for everyone. A short and interactive presentation promised!

  • How could they save up to 80 percent across the enterprise in automating information flow and creating and maintaining content.

Housed in the TWB Complex in Bangalore, the COE powers indigenous innovation and practical implementation of technical communication solutions for large and diverse organizations, especially organizational decision making process is multi-layered. At the TWB Centre of Excellence in Technical Communication™ (TWB COE) enterprise customers can run simulations and pilots on:

  • Best / most suitable/competing architecture(s) of implementing information management & content reuse throughout the enterprise
  • Approaches on quantifying and measuring information and information quality
  • Various documentation and information management software solutions such as:
  • > Microsoft®, Author-it®, Madcap® , Adobe® suites, multiple CMS’ and LMS’
    >  XML/DITA implementations

  • Pilots on how each of these can be adapted to various enterprise requirements

According to Gartner, due to lack of information, processes, and tools, through 2012, more than 35 percent of the top 5,000 global companies will regularly fail to make insightful decisions about significant changes in their business and markets. An Aberdeen Group research says that reuse has helped to reduce review times by subject matter experts by 40 percent, freeing these resources to focus on new product development, rather than supporting the documentation process.
