Please be present at the venue by 9:45 am to avoid inconvenience.

Presentations

HCI research methods – This session introduces popular HCI research methods including historical evolution and current practices.

Usability heuristics for documentation – Technical writers place tremendous importance on content reviews, whether it is by peers, technical specialists, editors, managers, or clients. These reviews focus on quality and accuracy of content, but seldom usability. Typically, the reviews cover aspects like completeness of content, formatting, broken links, inconsistencies in content usage, and look and feel. While all of these do contribute to usability, they are not the only contributors. The writers tend to ignore such aspects as findability, ease of navigation from the user’s search perspective, match between the users’ real world and the help interface/content. This session discusses some of the heuristics used to evaluate usability of an interface and how it can be applied to documentation as well.

Web analytics in technical documentation – This session deals with the “what” of web analytics and tries to find the “how” of its relevance in technical communication. Jigesh gives an overview of the value that web analytics brings to the field of technical communication and shares his experiences.

Registration

Registration is mandatory. The last date for registration is August 25, 2010. This session is free for STC and non-STC members. You can register at
