Methods and tools for documentation estimation — Bindu Nayar & Triveni Mahesh

Session:Do you feel stumped when your manager asks you to estimate the time required to complete a piece of documentation? Rest assured, you are not the only one to feel this way. No matter what your job profile is, you must have faced multiple questions on how to estimate and which method to use to estimate project documentation metrics.
With the aid of this presentation, we will introduce you to the world of estimation and handhold to take you through the process of estimating using the Wideband Delphi method.
Speakers:
Bindu Nayar, a Lead Technical Writer with Novell has over 10 years of experience in the area of Technical Writing. She has experience in authoring product and developer documentation for protocols. In addition to the primary responsibility of documentation, she also has experience in doing project management activities for the team in Novell.
Triveni Mahesh, has been with Novell for a year and has 1.6 years of total documentation experience. She is currently in charge of product documentation for file security services. In addition to the primary responsibility of documentation, she also runs the Documentation Team newsletter.

Our presentation, “Pulse Check of Doc Projects – Best Practices at Novell” highlights the importance of effective tracking and reporting of documentation projects and the pragmatic impact it has in improving visibility into a project’s status.
Speakers:
Mridula Mukund is working as a Senior Technical Writer at Novell. She holds an Engineering degree in Telecommunications and is currently pursuing her MBA in Marketing. She has about 4 years of experience, working in different domains such as Supply chain, Oil & Gas, and Healthcare.
Premleela Radhakrishnan is working as a Senior Technical Writer at Novell. She has 5 years of experience in the Technical Communication industry and has managed documentation projects for Indian and Global customers. Some of the domains she has worked on include, Backup and Storage, Telecommunication and Finance.

This session aims at sharing some best practices, which can be applied effectively to enhance documentation usability. The session also aims at discussing why documentation usability is important and how it can make a big, positive impact to your company and, most importantly, your customers.
Speakers:
Shalini G works with Novell as a Senior Technical Writer. She has experience in technical editing, teaching doc tools and techniques, creating template and writing. As a technical editor she has edited various scientific journals at MacMillan. As a trainer, she has taught doc tools such as Robohelp, FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, HTML, XML and doc techniques. As a technical writer, she has experience in writing for various software products including Engineering Simulation Software Products and Solutions. In her current role, she is working on security products.
Sandhya Sriram works with Novell as a Lead Technical Writer. She has experience in teaching Oracle apart from other applications of MS-Office, before moving as an Instructional Designer, writing WBTs, CBTs and ILTs. She also has experience in writing market analysis articles. As a technical writer, she has experience in writing for telecom domain, especially related to payments and messaging. In her current role, she is handling a product on security information and event management solution.
