Competitions Manager
  • Conduct technical communication competitions [technical writing, technical art or illustration]
  • Design and come up with contests
  • Announce these contests in different mailing lists
  • Nominate a set of judges and evaluate the entries received
  • Work with the admin council to award the prizes

Education and Scholarship Manager
  • Education  activities
    • Work closely with academia (colleges/universities)
    • Conduct talks in colleges/universities on technical writing. Get students interested in the profession
    • Work with colleges and assist them to setup technical writing courses/certificate programs
    • Assist universities in coming up with syllabus for technical writing course
    • Work with the admin council to get interested STC volunteers to teach these courses
  • Scholarship activities
    • Work closely with different colleges/universities offering technical writing/communication as a course
    • Identify suitable and worthy candidates for awarding scholarship. Work with the course coordinator and lecturers to get more information about the candidates
    • Work with the admin council to disburse the scholarship amount

Membership and Employment Manager
  • Membership activities
    • Evangelize about STC membership benefits. Get many people roped in to become STC members.
    • Explain the benefits of STC membership in various forums (learning sessions, regional conferences, employment fairs)
    • Conduct roadshows, send out e-mails etc to get people interested in joining STC
    • Maintain the member database for STC India chapter. Membership database consists of member names, e-mail id, and other information
    • Maintain the STC India mailing list
  • Employment activities
    • Conduct employment fairs in different cities working closely with the city reps
    • Conduct employment roadshows
    • Assist in conducting technical writing salary surveys

Public Relations and Sponsorship Manager
  • Public Relations
    • PR Manager coordinates the press releases and announcements for STC India chapter
    • Get press/media coverage for STC India chapter activities
    • Maintain the STC India PR blog to communicate STC India activities
  • Sponsorship
    • Works continuously with corporates to get sponsorship for various STC activities (mostly for regional conferences, employment fair, and annual conference)

Newsletter (INDUS) Editors, Publisher
INDUS is STC India's award winning online newsletter/journal on technical communication. These volunteers support INDUS:
    • Copy editors (2): To perform edit on the articles received and make it ready for publication
    • Publisher: To perform the required tasks, and make INDUS web-ready (for publishing to the web). Knowledge of online/web editors is a must for this position
    • Coordinator: To work closely with contributors, and contact potential contributors and source articles for INDUS


City Representatives

City Representative
  • Act as the STC representative for the city
  • Conduct regular learning sessions (at least once a month)
  • Conduct regional conferences and employment fairs
In reality, there is no limit to what a city representative can do for a city. Any activity that can be a value-add to technical writers can be planned and conducted.
