2) Designing Content Models for Reuse across Information Products-Jyoti Jandhyala

Reusable content is a collection of information objects that can be used across
documents, across media and across information products. Reusable content
can consist of entire documents, sections, paragraphs, sentences, or even
individual words that can be reused within an information product or across
information products in an enterprise. Effective content reuse requires content
models, metadata, and strategies that support reuse. Content models define
how information products are structured to support reuse and they identify
where information products can share reusable content.

This presentation provides an overview about reuse, how it can be implemented
and challenges faced while implementing reuse.

3) Makeover of Information Management Systems – DITA Migration Strategy-Jyoti Jandhyala

Increasingly, more companies are moving from using traditional authoring tools like
FrameMaker towards using XML-based standards like DITA. However, moving
to DITA is not only about finding the right tools that support it, it is also a
re-orientation of how we author and deliver information.

Switching to DITA-based knowledge management systems saves big money in the
long run because of the inherent content reuse and multiple delivery capabilities.
To maximize reuse, information needs to be modular and topic-oriented. Topic
granularity can be arrived at after analyzing documents, information types, and
customer requirements.

To fully leverage the power of DITA and reuse, organizations need to consider factors
like audience analysis, information architecture, tools, delivery mechanisms,
metadata, and information retrieval mechanisms. The key to a successful
information management makeover is having the right strategy when migrating
from legacy systems to DITA.

Profile: Jyothi Jandhyala has a Masters in Physics (M.Sc) and
English Literature (MA) and she started off her career as a
